Library Passport @Brunswickcomlib

Brunswick Community Library

I was in Brunswick on a Saturday for a Cub Scout event.  I was pleasantly surprised to see the Brunswick Library was open until 6 on Saturdays, something most small libraries do not do.  So my daughter and I snuck out of the scout event and went over for a quick visit.

The library moved to its new location in 2009, they had previously been in one room of a two-room schoolhouse (the Garfield School).  So these people know how to use space efficiently.  I worked there back then, when the rule was if one book came in, another book had to leave. I happen to have some pictures of their old space…

Here’s their new space- a big improvement.

It was eerily silent- there were people there, but no sound.  Saturday afternoon- all the kids had gone home for dinner.

The teen area has game chairs tucked away, ready to be pulled out for use, and nice lap desks for homework or device use.

The children’s area is welcoming and fun.

I like the idea of using book covers as decorations.  The totem pole looks familiar- oh yes, here it is in the garden behind the old place, circa 2005…(sorry, I don’t know who the little girl is, but good grief, she’s probably in college)

Their latest project, kindness rocks, had a nice display on a table- I need to remember to show off our craft projects.

I almost snuck out without being recognized- but my daughter, who had a bet going, had to spoil it by asking the clerk if she knew me.  Of course she did, and she’d met my daughter when she was 4.  Fortunately there was no money riding on this bet.

A very cozy library.  The right kind of cozy, not the real estate euphemism.
